Charity: Hope House Counselling Centre

Marianne has been a community journalist for the past six years. She holds a BA Honours.

She will be dedicating her year to the Hope House Counselling Centre as an editor.

They offer counselling, courses, workshops and support groups and training and outpatients rehab programme. The mission of Hope House is to offer hope to hurting people through Biblical care and counselling. They will endeavour to equip people to withstand the pressure they face in practical demands of daily life and are situated in Bergvliet, Steenberg and Kuilsriver.

Communities are quite small and getting ‘counselling’ is sometimes frowned upon, hence people don’t reach out when they need information or assistance.

She would like to work with three schools in the area to recruit and train teams at each of the schools to work on a schools newspaper. The plan is to get an anonymous suggestion box to be placed at each school with issues and questions to be placed in the boxes by the learners. A newspaper will then be put together by the learners, for the learners and counselling information and advice will be published on issues including drug use, teenage pregnancy etc.
