Charity: U-Turn Homeless Ministries
Lise is an occupational therapist from the Western Cape who is volunteering at U-Turn, an NPO focussing on the poor and homeless.
She has experience in working with various population groups including people facing various psychiatric and social challenges.
Van den Dool, who has previously volunteered for the organisation, says that U-Turn aims to restore the self-worth and self-esteem of homeless people by addressing their spiritual, physical and emotional needs. The aim is to integrate homeless people back into society.
Lise who is the project coordinator for the first phase, explained further that occupational therapy is used to motivate homeless people to change their lives.
“People who live on the street are often very demotivated and organisations all over the world are struggling to get them into rehabilitation programmes,” she said.
