Aviwe Mzazi is a 26-year-old counsellor who holds a BA (Hons) in psychology and BA in social science. Aviwe completed her internship with LifeLine Port Elizabeth (LLPE), which is the organisation of her choice for the Vodacom Change the World initiative. She has chosen to work with LLPE as there is a great need for registered counsellors to run its projects, particularly in schools where the organisation can make a significant difference.

My Project:

  • Vutha Ignite the Fire at Ikhwezi Lomso High School
  • Smile Week at Provincial Hospital
  • HIV and AIDS Training Tsolo Village

My Background:

  • Holds a BA (Hons.) in psychology and a BA in social sciences
  • Completed an internship at her chosen non-profit organisation, LifeLine Port Elizabeth (LLPE)
  • Volunteered at the Family and Marriage Association of South Africa (FAMSA) in Port Elizabeth
  • Facilitated the Grade 11 Vutla Ignite Fire Youth Programme
  • Chose to work with LLPE as there is a great need for registered counsellors

More about Lifeline:

  • LLPE is a registered Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) and Public Benefit Organisation (PBO)
  • The organisation currently has a staff complement of seven, three contract trainers and approximately 71 voluntary lay counsellors
  • Currently, LLPE is involved in various projects in the community including:
    - 24-hour counselling on the "van Stadens Bridge Line"
    - Face-to-face counselling by lay counsellors
    - Trauma debriefing
    - Retrenchment counselling
    - Employee assistance programmes
    - Facilitating training programmes
    - Facilitating youth and adult programmes
    - HIV and AIDS programmes
    - HIV and AIDS workplace programmes
    - Facilitating support groups
    - Facilitating outreach centres
