Charity: Singakwenza Education and Health

Shortly:

I hail from KwaZulu Natal and have chosen Singakwenza Education and Health as my NPO for the 2013 Vodacom Change the World initiative. With my qualification in marketing management and 23 years of experience in public relations and marketing, I intend to grow Singakwenza’s reach by securing funding for the organisation in order for it to remain financially viable and sustainable.

My Background:

  • From KwaZulu Natal
  • Hold a qualification in marketing management
  • Have 23 years of experience in public relations and marketing
  • Worked in the education environment for the past 8 years
  • Have experienced first-hand the need for a sound foundation when it comes to education
  • Understands that a child learns the most during first 5 years of life
  • Have enviable insight into education practices
  • Hope to grow Singakwenza’s reach by securing funding for the organisation with a view to growing the NPO and its funding base in order for it to remain financially viable and sustainable
  • Inspired by the tremendous achievements that Singakwenza has already made in the two critical and life changing areas of health and education
  • Hope to grow the number of Singakwenza crèches to five

More about Singakwenza Education and Health:

  • Singakwenza Education and Health aims to provide low cost, high impact education and health through empowerment programmes to economically disadvantaged communities, particularly in rural areas of KwaZulu Natal
  • This is done through:
    - A sustainable Early Childhood Development mentorship programme for caregivers at economically disadvantaged crèches
    - Waste Workshops to teach educators how to make their own toys and teaching aids using recycling
    - An HIV intervention programme based on a peer education model for rural workers, particularly in the agricultural and forestry sectors
    - Mobile clinic services providing primary health care and counselling to rural workers and their families

My Projects:

  •  Hosted a fundraiser in August to launch the ‘Become a Rainbow Champion’ campaign
    - The aim of the campaign is to get as many ‘champions’ (donors) as possible to help raise funds
  • Singakwenza Talks
    - Organised a number of talks with various professionals,  aimed at raising funds for and awareness of the NPO
  • Waste to Toys
    - Singakwenza has developed a large number of toys and teaching aids made purely from recycled goods
  • Secured funding from Emirates Airlines Emirates Airlines for two years for Singakwenza.
