Charity: Headway Gauteng

Shortly:

I’m a Johannesburg-based a wife and mother of two teenagers and have recently completed my PhD in Social Work. My paper, titled ‘the Needs of Children Orphaned by HIV/AIDS in Middle Childhood’, has been published.  I’ve had a successful, ten-year career as a social worker for the Department of Social Development and the Department of Health. As a 2013 Vodacom Change the World volunteer, I’m helping others to reach their full potential through my work at Headway Gauteng.  Here, I’m managing the Soweto and Alexander branches, training field workers, securing resources, switching to an electronic record keeping system and taking on the role of therapy manager.

My Projects:

  • Group therapy programme
  • Outings for attendees
  • Headway Gauteng’s Brain Injury Global (BIG) Picnic
  • Messages of Hope balloons

My Background:

  • A wife and mother of two teenagers
  • Recently completed my PhD in social work
  • Successful 10 year career as a social worker for the Department of Social Development and the Department of Health
  • Volunteer and  treasurer for the women’s Manyano -  an organisation linked to my church that deals with various issues that women face
