Doreen Lesitla from Maboloka Village, near Brits has made it as one of the 20 Vodacom Change the World (CtW) volunteers.
The 33-year-old has an Electronics Engineering Diploma and IT System Support NQF level 5 and will be volunteering her time and skills at the Thusano Prevention Programme for a year. Situated in Maboloka Village, the Thusano Prevention Programme focuses on reducing the number of children who leave school prematurely because of poverty. Oftentimes these children turn to crime and drugs and are at risk of unwanted pregnancy and contracting HIV/AIDS.
At the NPO, Doreen will take up the role of a Skills development facilitator. She will make use of her auxiliary social work skills to provide psychosocial support to orphans and vulnerable children.
Doreen says what motivated her to apply for CtW is her passion for children and youth and the impact she would like to make in their lives.
“I want to see them being able to use computers in order to do their school work in this world of technology,” says Doreen.
