24- year-old Kelly Jacobs has been selected to participate in the Vodacom Change the World (CtW) volunteerism programme 2017/2018.
Jacobs, from Grassy Park in Cape Town, will volunteer as a Programme Co-ordinator at St Michael's Child and Youth Care Centre situated in Plumstead, Cape Town. The residential care facility houses 25 adolescent females that have suffered adverse and challenging circumstances. It offers the girls therapeutic and developmental programmes to facilitate healing and transform them into confident and empowered young women who are equipped with the necessary coping skills to withstand the challenges they will encounter in life.
Jacobs holds a Bachelor of Psychology (BPsych) from Midrand Graduate Institute. She aims to introduce a multi-purpose activity centre at St Michael's CYCC, where the staff and residents will have access to computer and internet facilities.
She says Change the World is a great opportunity for the girls at the Child and Youth Care Centre to access the endless possibilities for education and training that is made available to them on the Internet. This opens the doors for skills training and it empowers them to access both educational and career opportunities.
