Catherine (34) has been selected as one of the 20-strong intake of the Vodacom Change the World (CtW) volunteers for 2017/2018.

Catharine has a Masters in International Development and Management from Lund University in Sweden and has over 10 years’ experience in capacity development, mentoring and training. She will volunteer her time and skills at Friends of Chintsa (Friends) for a period of a year.

Friends is a non-profit organisation (NPO) in Chintsa East, north of East London, Eastern Cape. The organisation focuses on providing a platform to drive change in communities through dedicated ‘Champions’..  At Friends, Catherine will dedicate her time as mentor and Manager at the newly established Chintsa East Community Learning Centre (CECLC). 

Amongst other projects, Catherine will work with the CECLC interns to develop and provide information and communication technology (ICT) related training and support and support local ‘Champions’ harness the power of ICT to strengthen the vital work they do.

Additionally, she will ensure that the CECLC has the systems, capacity and infrastructure in place to continue supporting residents of Chintsa beyond the one-year timeframe.

Catherine says she applied for the CtW programme because she believes in the potential of access to opportunities, resources and support to enable individuals to pursue their dreams that deliver a better future.
