Charity: Agribusiness in Sustainable Natural African Plant Products (ASNAPP)
Cliff is a Mechanical Engineer with more than 25 years’ experience in management. He has 18 years’ experience working for food factories and 10 years as entrepreneur, running his own food business in food processing.
He has a passion for making a difference and has had two short term contracts over the last year in South Africa and Zambia. He will be working with Agribusiness in Sustainable Natural African Plant Products (ASNAPP) as a General Manager for the Social Enterprise.
ASNAPP is an NGO that develops successful African agribusinesses in the agriculture sector, providing income, employment & development, through environmentally and socially conscious practices to produce high quality products for local, regional and overseas markets.
- The ASNAPP vision is to expand economic opportunities for rural communities by using world class science, technologies, partnerships and business approaches to develop and enhance Africa’s competitive advantage in the Natural Plant Products industry
- ASNAPP is currently partnered with 25 agri-enterprises, representing over 2 000 small-scale farmers on the continent. While broadening agribusinesses and stimulating entrepreneurship among small-scale rural farmers remains a goal, ASNAPP's vision is to move local communities up the value chain and improve their livelihoods.
- ASNAPP is currently active in South Africa, Ghana, Rwanda, Senegal and Zambia, and has satellite projects in Angola, Malawi, and Mozambique. Its activities in the African horticulture sector have seen it forge market linkages with various private and public entities regionally and abroad. The organisation uses these market linkages to improve small holder and emerging farmer participation in the formal sector economy, enhancing their ability to capture value and improve their livelihoods.
Cliff has realised that, although ASNAPP staff are good in agriculture, the organisation needs to bolster its management expertise and that is where he comes in. His project will be focused on the Social Enterprise.
The Social Enterprise requires a General Manager reporting to the Managing Director of ASNAPP, to finalise the legal structures and operating frame work in which the NPO and Social Enterprise will operate, and coordinate the combined efforts of the two organisations in tackling the Agri Incubator opportunities that they are already confronted with, to the benefit of communities they serve;
Specific goals would include the establishment of the legal structure of the Social Enterprise and the frame work of operation with communities /projects and have two projects functioning within the structure to the benefit of the NPO and the community it serves.
